The Fourth Annual Champion for Women
Award Recipient

Katie Shilts

The Women’s Fund of Weld County has named community leader Katie Shilts the 2022 Champion for Women. The Champion for Women recognizes women who have an ongoing dedication to the Women’s Fund of Weld County after their time on the board is complete. This includes continued personal and financial investments to the organization, attending organization functions and acting as an ambassador for the organization in the
community. Past recipients of this award include Julie Constance, Kristi Thomas and Women’s Fund founding member, Betty L. Tointon.
Katie Shilts was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado. Her parents were both dedicated to the community and ensuring their children understood what it meant to bloom where they're planted. This meant Katie started serving as a volunteer at 13 and joined local boards at 16. Katie went to Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where she majored in Communications. Her career has taken many different directions from senior housing, nonprofit management, healthcare to now accounting and finance. She received her Master's in healthcare administration and management from CSU Global in 2016 and is close to completing her second Master's in finance. Along the way she has continued to serve on boards and led The Women's Fund of Weld County as president from June of 2018 to December 2019. She currently lives in Greeley with her husband, Luke, and bull terrier, Tazz. She continues to serve the community as a board member for A Woman's Place and secretary of her church board.
